On Thursday, May 30, the Uni landed on a stretch of sidewalk next to a church, in front of a Banco Popular, at the corner of Eastern Parkway and Utica Ave in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, near the entrance to the 1/5 Utica Ave train stop. We were there to make a place for books and learning while also helping nearby St. John’s Place Family Center promote their day care and afterschool programs. Children from St. John’s Place programs were our best patrons, and they helped us put reading on stage for several hours. Banco Popular staff took turns reading aloud to kids.

Thanks to Louis Rodriguez, Executive Director of St. John’s Place Family Center, for jumping in to make this event happen, and to Ann R. Loeb, for making the connection to St John’s Place and also taking several turns reading aloud. Thanks also to Lesbia Antioco and other Banco Popular employees, for hosting and reading. A big thanks to Uni Volunteer Stephanie Yee who specializes in hot weather deployments!
