npp_200x100On May 16, 2015, the Uni Project created an open-air reading room on a recently-created pedestrian plaza in Brooklyn. We visit these emerging public spaces to help activate space, give people a way to gather, and show how reading and learning can be part of the mix at street level. The Uni at Marcy Plaza was made possible by funds granted by the Charles H. Revson Foundation through the Neighborhood Plaza Partnership. Thanks to our host, Bed-Stuy Gateway BID. Thanks also to Eleanor Adams, Branch Manager of Macon Library (Brooklyn Public Library) for sharing a special shelf of books from Macon.

Update 8/1/15: We’re happy to report that books and reading are now being offered at the plaza by Bed Stuy Restoration, in conjunction with a weekly farmers’ market.

Thanks to Sesame Workshop for donating a shelf of children’s books to the Uni in 2015. It travels with us across the city.
