Uni in ChelseaThe Uni has embarked on a six week residency in Chelsea, offering reading, drawing, and hands-on learning activities in Chelsea Park (West 27th St and 10th Ave). As always, our goal is to offer people from all walks of life a chance to gather around something good in public space, and our Chelsea cart is stocked with high quality books and art materials. The residency is led by Uni staff member Egypt Calier, who grew up in the neighborhood, and it also involves student volunteers from Avenues: The World School. Avenues has been involved in Uni deployments in Chelsea since 2013, when our original Uni reading room tower visited the neighborhood.

These 2016 deployments were made possible with funding from Leaves of Grass Fund and Green Below 14. Thanks always to our partner NYC Parks, and also local partner Hudson Guild. Drawing supplies donated by Blick Art Materials. Join us every Wednesday 3:30pm-6:30pm through June! (schedule)

Thanks to Kim Allen at Avenues for arranging local storage at the school, which allows the installation to be rolled into place by hand. No truck needed in Chelsea!

Egypt coaches a basketball team, and her players were eager to help us roll the Uni into position.
