nycparks copyThe Uni launched a four week residency at the newly renovated Concrete Plant Park in the Bronx today. We’re here in partnership with a terrific Bronx community organization, Youth Ministries for Peace and Justice, and we’re deploying next to Swale, a floating urban farm dedicated to rethinking New York City’s connection to our environment. Check out our first day:

With a heat advisory in effect, we deployed a new tent and shortened our hours. We encouraged people to gather in our shade!

Swale is a food-growing barge that is touring NYC, starting in the Bronx. Climb aboard and explore.

At the end of the day, we tested some locations for the weeks ahead when the heat breaks and crowds return. Portable, shade-seeking library.

Thanks Leah and Ester for braving the heat and staffing the Uni today. Couldn’t do it without you.

I passed a pop-up basketball court on the walk back to the train. Pro tip from Bronx locals: set up your basket at a hydrant. That gets you about 30 feet of court space, no parked cars in the way.
