Calling artists, illustrators, and designers!

IMG_7498_psdIf you could get the people of New York City to pause for a moment and DRAW, how would you do it? The Uni Project invites you to submit an idea, challenge, or prompt for a new program called DRAW NYC that will inspire New Yorkers to sit down together and draw, in parks, plazas, and other public spaces all across the city.

To participate, please send the following to Leslie Davol:
The Uni Portable Reading Room in New York City

  • A few sentences suggesting simple steps New Yorkers can take to make a drawing, ideally inspired by some aspect of your own practice;
  • One or two images (JPG, etc) suitable for printing 5”x5″;
  • A very short sentence describing who you are and (optional) how the activity might relate to you/your work.

We’ll put these ideas on large rolodex-style cards and attach them to our drawing boards, available wherever our portable drawing studio pops-up. Participating artists so far include Sarah Sze, Bob Staake, Lynda Barry, Matteo Pericoli, Nicole Law, Yifat Gat, and more—see samples below!

Out on the street, we’ll provide people with pencils, charcoal, paper, and other drawing tools. Staff will be on hand to facilitate, but your ideas will provide the inspiration to get people started. We’ll take photos of the results and share online.

The Uni Portable Reading Room in New York CityThe Uni Project travels across New York City with a special focus on underserved neighborhoods where art and education resources can be scarce. Your contribution will mean a great deal to the people we meet—especially young people. Thanks for helping us create an oasis for drawing in neighborhoods of New York City.
